The Title
How To... Win The Environmental Battles That Test This Generation

The Date
Saturday, April 14, 2007

The Theme
The economic, environmental, and social equity challenges that confront California are putting this generation to a test. And it’s a test we simply must win!

That’s why the Planning and Conservation League and the PCL Foundation announced the theme of the 2007 annual Environmental Legislative Symposium as: “How To… Win The Environmental Battles That Test This Generation.”

For more than 40 years, PCL has been on the frontlines of the battle for environmental protection in California, representing a league of environmental organizations from across California and serving as a conduit between our affiliate organizations and environmental policymakers. Since 1972, the PCL Foundation has provided education and training to assist decision-makers and the public to produce quality environmental policy in California.

So it’s fitting that the 2007 Symposium brings us back to what really matters: Success.

To win on environmental issues as diverse as climate change, flood protection, land use reform, environmental injustice, traffic congestion, and water shortages we need more than just talk. We need creativity, communication, coordination, education, and resolve.

Help us identify the battles we simply must win in the years ahead. And get the tools you need to be effective environmental advocates at the grassroots and statewide level.

The Policy Keynotes
We were delighted to have Peter Douglas with the California Coastal Commission as our morning policy keynote and Congressman Jerry McNerney as our lunchtime presenter. Additionally, we were honored to have Linda Adams, from the California Environmental Protection Agency, who closed the day's events during our evening awards banquet. Their presentations were interesting, informative and discussed some of California's more imminent environmental challenges.

The Program (55K PDF file)
The Annual Symposium included dynamic keynote presentations, interactive panel discussion sessions, “How To…” workshops, and an evening banquet. In the morning, Policy Panels discussed some of the most critical environmental issues facing California. In the afternoon, “How To…” workshops empowered participants with relevant tools on how to effectively fight environmental battles. After the Symposium, PCL and PCLF honored a few of California’s most effective, inspirational, and hard working environmental advocates.

MCLE Credits (116KB PDF file)
PCL and PCLF certifies that this activity was approved for 5.75 MCLE credits by the State Bar of California. These credits include a policy panel, two afternoon workshops, and two policy keynote addresses. Please see the MCLE flyer for a description of the MCLE opportunities.
