Steps to a Sustainable California: Building Momentum for Real Change

FEBRUARY 7, 2009

2009 symposium logoThe Planning and Conservation League (PCL) and PCL Foundation hosted its annual Environmental Legislative Symposium, bringing together over 315 activists, business leaders, policy and decision makers, environmental non-profits and attorneys.

The Symposium theme for 2009 was “Steps to a Sustainable California: Building Momentum for Real Change.” To ensure a sustainable future, we need to make real changes in how we live our lives, and how we organize our society. And we need to start making those changes right now – right here in California.

Background

2009 Symposium - Darrell Steinberg Senate President pro TemTo ensure a sustainable future, we need to make real changes in how we live our lives, and how we organize our society. And we need to start making those changes right now – right here in California! The 2009 PCL and PCL Foundation Symposium was designed to help us do just that.

The past successes of the environmental movement in California, and our present capabilities and dedication, put us in a unique position to help build the momentum our state needs to achieve a sustainable future.

Real change means a willingness to transform our transportation systems, our land use patterns, and water use. With the momentum building for real change, it seemed natural to focus the 2009 Legislative Environmental Symposium around that same topic.

The Annual Symposium included dynamic keynote presentations, interactive panel discussions, “How To…” workshops, MCLE courses, and an evening awards banquet. During each of the three 75-minute sessions, every participant choose from one MCLE panel, two panel discussions, and two “How To…” workshops. After the Symposium, PCL honored a few of California’s most effective, inspirational, and hard working environmental advocates at the awards banquet.

MCLE and AICP CM Credit was available.
